Welcome to my Professional e-portfolio! I am a library science master’s program student focusing on school librarianship at the University of North Texas (UNT). I should complete the library science program in August 2019. Currently I am employed with Robstown ISD as the Library teacher at both Lotspeich Elementary and San Pedro Elementary. I began this career almost seven years ago when the current librarian decided to retire. My passion for both reading and students helped me start this wonderful career. The district librarians have been invaluable with their support and advice in all library areas. I am ever so grateful for the wealth of information that has been provided to keep me motivated and enthusiastic about this field. I have also been able to extend my professional growth by attending the annual Texas Library Association (TLA) conferences since 2012.
Previous to being in the library I taught Speech Communications and Journalism for about four years at the secondary level. I was also the UIL Speech/Debate coach and was the Yearbook Adviser. I decided to get my Generalist K-4 certification to teach elementary students. I figured teaching the younger students would be easier and well that assumption was proven wrong within the first few weeks of teaching third grade. I taught third grade for two years and then was able to have the opportunity to be in the library.
I have been married to my husband, Manny, for nine years and we have three children: Araceli (8), Cinco (2) and Micah (7 months old).
This Professional ePortfolio website serves as documentation of my professional growth in the library master’s program. In this website, you will find my philosophy statement on school librarianship as well as my current resume. There is also a blog I will regularly update on a weekly basis along with Personal Learning Resources that support my learning and growth in this program.
